John Sutton

John Sutton, MBA, CPA, CPTM, is the CTAS Certified County Finance Officer (CCFO) program manager and instructor. He has over 40 years of experience in local governmental accounting, auditing and financial reporting. Before joining CTAS in July 2019, he was a senior audit manager with PUGH CPAs, an RSM McGladrey Alliance Firm, and with another CPA firm both located in Knoxville, TN.  

After graduating from Middle Tennessee State University with a Bachelor of Business Administration and major in accounting, he began his career as a staff auditor with the Tennessee Comptroller of the Treasury, Division of Local Government Audit. He received his Master of Business Administration from the University of Tennessee at Martin and has been a licensed certified public accountant (CPA) since 1987. 

In 2021, John completed the Certified Professional in Training Management (CPTM) program. He has extensive experience working with counties, boards of education, cities, utility districts and governmental pension and retirement plans. John is a sixth-generation East Tennessean and has been married to his wife for over 30 years.
